Convert CSV to IIF for QuickBooks Desktop

IIF is QuickBooks Desktop's legacy import format — handy because it imports directly into registers without bank feed matching. This tool converts your CSV into balanced double-entry IIF transactions.

How to convert CSV to IIF

  1. Drop in your bank's CSV export.
  2. Verify the column mapping and preview.
  3. Name the QuickBooks bank account and offset accounts.
  4. Download the .iif and import via File → Utilities → Import → IIF Files.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to use with bank data?

Yes — the conversion runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your file is never uploaded to a server, so your financial data never leaves your computer.

IIF or QBO — which should I use?

QBO (Web Connect) is safer: transactions land in bank feeds for review and duplicate-skipping. Use IIF when you need direct register entry or your QuickBooks version can't use bank feeds.

What accounts do transactions post to?

Money out posts against the expense offset account and money in against the income offset account (both configurable). You can recategorize inside QuickBooks after import.
